Steam Sterilization

Introduction
Steam Sterilization (autoclaving) is the most commonly used method in the healthcare, pharmaceutical and research facilities. It is mainly due to economy, convenience and environmental friendliness.

This process of sterilization requires pressure, temperature, and time to be effective. Basically, the item to be sterilized has to be exposed to around 125°C of steam at 30psi for about 15 to 45 minutes depending on the type of loads.

Loads!
Only those that can withstand above conditions without chemical or physical alterations can be steam sterilized. Metalwares, glasswares, liquid, and linen are the most commonly items that are being autoclaved. Selected plastic, rubber and silicone materials can be autoclaved also.
